Gabriel O'Shea's work focuses mainly on the duality of the divine and the mundane, using art as a tool that allows him to sow intimate questions in the viewer on a variety of topics including the absence of spirituality, the lack of introspection, contemporary nihilism, and the violence and decadence that surrounds our present day. The human body is presented segmented, partially exposed, or veiled, implying unsettling latent narratives, emphasised by the realism and precision of his technique that makes the vulnerability of the human body visible.
Gabriel O'Shea is an artist who works in disciplines such as sculpture, painting, photography, installation and video, using materials such as wax, silicone, textiles, metal and human hair. The references to religious themes and the frequent emphasis on injured or damaged human figures, express a tension between the existential and the spiritual, between tranquillity and chaos.
Gabriel studied at the Barcelona Academy of Art, in 2018. He has had solo exhibitions at the Casa de la Mora Museum, Toluca, Mexico. And he has participated in group shows such as "Index 5: estancias" at the Galería Hilario Galguera, Mexico (2021) and at the Zona Maco art fair, Mexico City (2022).
