Zé Carlos Garcia, born in the state of Sergipe (northeast region of Brazil), lives and works in the city of Rio de Janei- ro. He studied sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and attended the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage.
Zé Carlos Garcia's research starts from existing bodies, sometimes dead, static, found, natural, or artificial, and generates objects - beings - under the sign of sculpture. Pieces of wood and fragments of antique furniture are arran- ged in creations with aesthetic and allegorical force.
The artist proposes a discussion with the body as the central piece - whether animal, human, or sculptural - and experience as a voluntary action that alters the landscape, in constant morphological change, modified through the incorporation of new elements.
