Originally from the UK, Christine Beard is a figurative contemporary artist. Since 2007, she has lived in Sydney, Australia. A self-taught, emerging artist, Christine makes use of the watercolour medium. Rather than seeking out unique or original subject matters, Christine aims to avail the mundane and usual in her pieces. Painting people is what entices her. She was a Doyles Art Award 2022 finalist, has started to attract gallery representation and featured in the curated Other Art Fair Virtual Edition 2022

Christine works from her home studio. She uses a limited palette of the same 6 primary colours. She pays attention to shadows as well as colour and value relationships. She chases after all the magic, light and colour that watercolour paint can provide. Her work offers vibrant colours and strong contrasting tones that will delight any interior designer, decorator, or collector. Whether it’s a sun-soaked exterior, a shadowy urban setting or something featuring the sea and a beach, she mostly features people basked in light and colour. Her pieces aim to be at least the perfect complement to decorate the home and at best a vehicle that inspires the collector as it evokes memories of way back when for those compiling their own private art collection.

Painting people (men, women, children, families, groups of people) is her passion. Capturing them drenched in sunlight and doing something/ nothing/anything in that single moment in time is special, she thinks.

Subjects like these capture the light and trigger the memory. They become a vehicle so that we remember where we were and how we felt...

She loves to share her process and has posted several demo videos of her painting on YouTube.
