Studio per un paesaggio mentale #2

The series stems from the stubborn conviction that landscape is always an abstract, social element, an intimate view of the mind, a betrayal of reality. The result is a material, fragile painting composed of layers. In some of these paintings, the fragment plays a fundamental role: I often work on large format and then isolate scraps of paint, searching for the autonomous beauty of the detail, in a game of composition and reduction of format. Cropping - as the photographic jargon goes - a pictorial image emphasises the ancient dilemma of the frame, that which remains excluded from view. This blind field, which animates the image and makes it continue narratively beyond the boundaries of the frame, is for me one of the most exciting peculiarities of painting.
