Rain studied art at the University of Cape Town and at Ruth Prowse Art School in Cape Town. Rain is one of the most renowned neo-pointillist painters in the world. Pointing at the loss of information caused by digitalization (digital meaning “distinct interval”), he came up with a style exposing the dark spaces of the image, highlighting the information being lost and presenting a different perspective. Part of the narrative of the painting is hidden in plain sight: at close distance, the paintings appear abstract, but as the viewer stands back, the subject of the painting reveals itself. Requiring precise calculations, the creative process brings together both of his interests – arts and mathematics. Rain participated at the 54th Venice Biennale of 2011 and the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013.
