In his paintings, Franz Baumgartner praises the mundane, the simple things, placing the viewer in an intimate dialogue with the image .

Franz uses oil paint on canvas to create large-scale landscapes, predominantly lit by a very particular light.

His paintings often have shades of gray color, are calm and deep and, they do not reveal themselves immediately, but over time develop a glow from this depth. Stylistically, the motifs are reduced, the perspective wrong. These stylistic devices remove the narratives and temporality of the images, giving reality something artificial.

German painter Franz Baumgartner, born in 1962 in Kleve, is famous for his paintings, which seem to "stop time" . After studying Horticulture from 1981 to 1983, the artist continued his education. From 1985 to 1989 he studied Art at the Technical Institute in Cologne under Prof. Marx, and from 1989 to 1993 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Prof. Krieg Meisterschuler.

Today Franz Baumgartner lives in Cologne, where he works as an artist.
