Camill Leberer's works negotiate the borderlines between painting and sculpture. Among his most important working materials are iron, paint and glass. Using these materials, the artist explores formal manifestations, such as light and space, dynamics and tranquility, as well as openness and closure in two- and three-dimensional work areas. Thus, in addition to his prominent sculptural œuvre, there are also drawings, paintings and photographs. Especially in his two-dimensional works, the categorical separation of surface and space is dissolved and the surface itself is understood as containing space. Through the use of transparent and reflective surfaces - made of glass, plastic, or metal, for example - Leberer consistently incorporates real space into the picture plane. Leberer's sculptures also open up space from flatness. Using orthogonal frame structures, the artist constructs cuboid object bodies mostly from rectangular surface elements. On the basis of these sculptures, Leberer investigates space and questions conditions for ideas, perceptions, and insights into space. The everyday familiarity with space is at stake and explores new perspectives for an unfamiliar event space.
