Galerie Anja Knoess

The art historian Anja Knoess founded GALERIE ANJA KNOESS in January 2015 on Große Brinkgasse in the center of Cologne, close to Rudolfplatz and Neumarkt. Prior to that, she gained a wide experience in gallery and art trade at different places, among others e. g. Sotheby’s in Cologne and London. GALERIE ANJA KNOESS represents international and contemporary painting, sculpture and photography of artists from Germany, other countries in Europe, from China and the USA. In up to seven curated exhibitions per year they are shown in the light-flooded loft-like gallery. Besides that, the gallery regularly introduces the artists’ works at international art fairs. The artists’ original and distinctive language characterizes the works of art that GALERIE ANJA KNOESS exhibits. The selection of them is based on their characteristic pictorial, photographic or sculptural approaches – this concerns both their choice of medium as well as their artistic implementation of the thematic and formal questions to which they are devoted: the tension between figuration and abstraction, the reduction of figuration and narration towards a formally structural language in the artistic representation.
