This canvas was created as a reinterpretation of an engraving from Francisco Goya's 'The Caprices' cycle. The series consists of prints with an ironic, sometimes fierce tone, which the author uses to talk about the vices and supposed virtues of the late 18th-century society contemporary with him. The chosen print is titled 'Bellos consejos' and depicts two women intent on talking thickly with each other: are they confiding? gossiping? is the older one warning the younger one of the dangers of good society? The artist has tried to translate this image to the present day, maintaining the ironic vein of the Caprices.

1992 Genova, Italy

Sofia Fresia (Genoa, 1992) is a painter and a rescue swimming athlete. She studied at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, where she lives and works. Growing up in the mountains of the Savona hinterland, she began to have a strong interest in the visual arts following a visit to the exhibition "Gli impressionisti e la neve" (2005), but not having had the opportunity to attend art high school, she continued as a self-taught artist until painting proved crucial in facing a long hospitalization. Painting rekindled in her a spark of interest in life, enabling her to overcome a difficult period. After graduating in Nursing (2014), she decided to enroll at the Albertina Academy of Turin, where she earned a Level I and II diploma in Painting. In 2019 she did an Erasmus+ mobility period in France, and since 2017 she has participated as a finalist in several national and international prizes, also taking part in various artistic residencies in Italy and abroad. In 2022 she got in touch with some galleries and was among the finalists of the XVI Arte Laguna Prize and the XIII Combat Prize.

POETICS
Her painting draws mainly from the iconographic universe of swimming and consists of surrealist works that deal with the contemporary world and the new difficulties involved in being part of it, with a special regard for the environment and the situation of the new generations trying to make their way in an ever-changing world. Through the use of bright colors, the works seek to suggest an interpretation of today that is less gray and more purposeful, an invitation to see a glimmer of light even in these uncertain times. The elements in her canvases often have an autobiographical appeal, linked to her experience as a competitive swimmer and traveling hiker
