Paolo Masi was born in 1933 in Florence. He lives and works between Florence and Berlin.

After the first informal experiences of the fifties, from the sixties he began to work "transforming" the materials.

In the seventies Masi partecipated in two Pittura Analitica exhibitions (I colori della pittura, Galleria Il Milione Milano 1976). During this time he occasionally lived in NY and he turns his attention to the simpler urban elements, like manholes, walls, floors… that he reproduces with Polaroid and with frottage. Through these works he approaches minimalism.

Also in the seventies Masi started two of his famous series: the “Cartoni” series, where he uses many different signs and techniques on this unusual support such as corrugated fiberboard, and the “Tessiture” series, abstract paintins on canvas sewn with cotton threads.

Among the numerous exhibitions, he participates in the 1978 Venice Biennale and in the 1986 Rome Quadrennial.
