As supports to her drawings, Laura Serafini choo- ses authentic ordinance survey maps. Based around studies of geology and geographical disposition, her works draw the lifeblood from Earth’s deep substrata, intellectually sublimated by man’s technical mapping.
Within the relationship between these spacial elements, Serafini locates the secrets of human personal identity, a dialogue between the boundaries of the body and the boundaries created by the ground’s surface.
There is an instinctive tendency to discover bodies and familiar shapes on the technical track of topographical map. Through pure illustrations made of lines, curves, details, shadows and empty spaces, the anthropological elaboration of what are intrinsically technical drawings, becomes a visual representation of our own identity.
“We are the outcome of a mysterious alchemy between origin, path, place and time.”
