Katherine Liontas-Warren has been a resident of Oklahoma since 1984. Katherine taught printmaking, drawing and watercolor for 37 years as professor of art at Cameron University. She retired in May 2021 to pursue her art as a full-time professional artist. Katherine has a Master of Fine Art from Texas Tech University and a Bachelor of Science from Southern Connecticut State University. Katherine Liontas-Warren was awarded the Oklahoma Governor's Art and Education Award in Oklahoma City at the State Capitol in 2014. She is also a recipient of the Bhattacharya Research Excellence Award, the Cameron University Faculty Hall of Fame, and the Phi Kappa Phi Distinguished Faculty. Katherine received the title of Artist of the Year by the Paseo Art Association in Oklahoma City and the Artist and Educator of the Year through the Lawton Arts and Humanities Council. Katherine has exhibited her works of art in over 400 National Solo, Invitational and Juried Competitive Exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad, and has received numerous purchase and juried awards.

 

Many of her prints and drawings are in permanent collections in Museums and institutions throughout the nation such as Austin Peay University, Arkansas Art Center, The Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern University, Oklahoma State University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Colorado, University of North Dakota, Oklahoma Art Institute: Quartz Mountain Lodge, Del Mar College, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Whitman College in Walla Walla, Butler Community College in Kansas, University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Leslie Powell Art Foundation Gallery, Milwaukee Museum of Art, Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, and Nicolls State University. The Museum of Texas Tech University recently acquired 86 works by Katherine Liontas-Warren for the Artist Printmaker Research Collection. This collection represents the documentation of American artist printmakers. 

Katherine was one of 72 artists invited to create a work of art for inclusion into the Re-Riding History From the Southern Plains to the Matanzas Bay Exhibition, The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum in Florida, Museum of the Great Plains, Oklahoma, and the Trout Gallery, Dickinson College in Pennsylvania.  Curated by Emily Arthur, Marwin Begaye, and John Hitchcock.

Katherine is featured in the documentary, Earth Chronicles Project, The Artist Process of Oklahoma. This film aired on OETA and at the Sarkeys Performing Art Center, St. Gregory's University in Shawnee, Oklahoma. 

 

 

Katherine's solos exhibitions have been displayed at the Longview Museum of Art in Texas, Oklahoma State Capitol, Midwestern State University, Ball State University, Indiana, Florida State University, Moorhead State University, Minnesota, Kilgore College, Texas, East Central State University, Odessa College, Texas, Individual Artist of Oklahoma Art Gallery, Oklahoma City University Museum, Goddard Center for the Arts, Kemp Art Center, Leslie Powell Art Gallery, Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, Kirkpatrick Museum, JRB Art at the Elms, and the Paseo Originals Art Gallery. 

 

Katherine is an active participant in print exchanges both nationally and internationally. She has been invited into the Jackalope portfolio, the Hell or High Water Portfolio, the East/West Portfolio, the Hand, Eye, and Bird Portfolio, Interiors and Exteriors Portfolio, the Circle of Print Portfolio, and the Kathyrn Inspired print exchange, Oklahoma Suite I and II, and the Cultural Landscape Print Exchange between North America and Ireland, and Color Print USA 2006 and 1998. All print portfolio exchanges abroad include Zayed University in Dubai, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Australia, Cork Printmakers Special Collection in Cork, Ireland. Other venues include Central Florida, Central Connecticut State University, Boise University, University of North Texas, Fred Jones Museum, Saint Lawrence University in New York, and Color Print USA in all 50 states and toured Europe in 1998-99.

Katherine has juried the Oklahoma Young Talent Statewide competition in 2006, 2009, and 2011. She has two drawings published in the second edition of Drawing from Observation textbook, by Brian Curtis and was featured in the issue of the American Artist Magazine in 2004. Katherine has taught numerous workshops on drawing and printmaking at various universities, museums, and institutes. She has taught three drawing workshops at the Oklahoma Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain for public school educators and continues to give workshops and demonstrations regionally throughout the southwest.

Most recently, Katherine taught at John Campbell Folk School in North Carolina.
