Whitehouse Gallery is situated in a beautiful rural setting just a short distance from the historic city of Leuven. Housed in a restored 18th-century villa, the building is encircled by an historic 11-hectare arboretum. The tranquil location and traditional architecture foster a dialogue between past and present, nature and culture, the local and global, and time and space. The site-specific approach gives rise to a unique experience for visitors and artists alike. Established in May 2014, the gallery is committed to supporting established and emerging contemporary artists, with a special emphasis on nurturing the careers of the younger generation. The exhibition programme focuses on new work that challenges the traditional expectations of a given medium or discipline. The gallery works with a growing circle of international artists and curators in the field of exhibitions, artist talks, lectures and publications. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, Whitehouse Gallery aspires to be a dynamic institution that is open to innovation and new artistic developments. The expansion of the gallery in September 2017 has resulted in the opening of a new 120 m2 project space in an adjacent building on the site. Twice a year, a curator is invited to select an international artist to exhibit in this resolutely contemporary setting. Given free rein to create a project, their work is presented in tandem with the programme in the main gallery. In September 2018, we also incorporated the 350 m2 gym of this sports hall into the gallery.
