Beach View of Collioure, France

Wayne Ensrud (b. 1934, USA) “Beach View of Collioure, France” (circa 1996-1997) is a 40 x 30-inch acrylic painting on canvas by the well-known and multi-talented painter, art director, animator, and art teacher.   Ensrud states,  'Collioure is a romantic French Catalan village located a few miles from the Spanish border in the southeastern corner of France. The town's beauty has attracted a multitude of artists like myself over the years who are drawn to the spectacular Mediterranean views against a backdrop of the most picturesque pastel colored buildings. I spent many summers there, immersed in creating paintings of the uniquely vibrant light and life.’   

In his travels to different parts of the world, Ensrud would paint the views he observed.  He carried his easel, canvas and paints to a particular location, at times painting from day into evening.  This night-time scene in Collioure is depicted in simple, almost child-like forms and shapes with Ensrud’s masterful brushwork and his use and contrast of vivid color.
