Heinz Trökes is one of the most important representatives of German abstract painting in the second half of the 20th century.

At the beginning of the '30s he was a student of Johannes Itten (master of the Bauhaus), from 1940 of Georg Muche in Krefeld. During National Socialism he was forbidden to work. In 1945 he co-founded the legendary Gerd Rosen Gallery in Berlin (art director).

In 1947 he was appointed to the Staatliche Hochschule für Baukunst und Baukunst Weimar (today Bauhaus University), which he left again after one semester together with Mac Zimmermann.

His life is linked to many places in the world where he traveled and worked - such as Paris, Berlin, Ibiza, Hamburg, the island of Aegina, Stuttgart, Munich, Salzburg ...and connected with many important artists of his time such as Itten, Muche, Kandinsky, Wols, Celan, Duchamp, Max Ernst ... After Hamburg and Stuttgart, he held a professorship at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin.

Heinz Trökes died in Berlin in 1997.
