Baurjan Aralov is a Kazakh artist born in 1997 in Almaty who lives and works in Graz, Austria since 2008. He is currently studying at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in the specialization of Painting and Animation in the Class of Judith Eisler. Prior to that, he graduated with a master’s degree in Art and Design at the University of Graz in the department of painting. The pictures that he paints, are coincidental moments, that the artist experiences in his everyday life. The criteria he chooses are his motives which are his aesthetic sensation that Baurjan perceives in the moment of beholding. It doesn‘t matter whether it‘s a “meme” on social media, interior settings, or walks in his neighborhood. The key is that everything happens by coincidence and he doesn‘t look for the next subject deliberately. The motives serve him as a base. So that he can focus on the painting process and engage with the questions of composition and dynamics in the media painting itself. The artist sees his works as autonomous positions where the painting process is in the foreground.
