Stig De Block’s ‘Back to Back: From Backyard to Boulevard’ on the LA Lowrider community premiers in the USA . De Block’s photography is characterized by strong colour palettes and graphic compositions that explore the imaginative possibilities of his surroundings. A director too, his story driven documentary approach and cinematic eye finds explicit beauty in the authentic.

The seed to Back to Back, originated in his childhood years in his hometown Antwerp in Belgium, watching nineties music video’s with hydraulic lowriders shaping the backdrop for performances of rap and rnb music artists and of sorts De Block admired. It was a combination of elements; the clashes of harsh sunlight, soft skin and unapologetic style shot against a gritty urban landscape that drew De Block in.

Residing between Antwerp, Belgium & Los Angeles, the latter was where he built his “Back to Back - From Backyard to Boulevard” a body of work shot across years documenting lowrider culture in LA. Stig de Block works mostly in the realm of fashion for clients varying from Heron Preston toLouis Vuitton, Missoni, Nike, Wrangler and M, Le Monde.
