Marco Michelini from Genoa, aka Myfo, comes from the street and looks at the world of luxury and fashion, power and wealth from both the inside and the outside.

The duplicity of the gaze is the basic theme of his works, where often the illustration, the poster of a cult film, the stereotyped image show a second message painted on the canvas. Eccentric shapes, colourful sketches reflect the dynamism of an ever-changing society, but their meaning is complemented by the underlying mystery.

Drawn to street art, the artist says he has always been fascinated by the energy of the writers, by what they had to say but could not put into words.

In terms of technique, Mayfo makes use of mixed media collage by superimposing handmade prints or drawings or original movie posters bought at auction.

On the last layer, a resin patina is applied, on which tears are first made to enhance the materiality of the painting to bring the viewer into a tactile experience.

From a conceptual point of view, the tears open a window onto the innermost layers of the painting that only the artist knows, since on the basis of the canvas he elaborates the thought of the work he is creating, insisting on the concept of mystery that is part of all of us.

Starting from the American pop art movement, Myfo renews its representation, inserting it into the horizon of his own time, drawing on the symbols of money and sex, on the most famous icons of cinema and fashion, denouncing the reproducibility of the images that the viral civilisation insistently proposes to its public through an obsessive self-celebration of its idols.
