Kyong Lee è un artista astratto coreano il cui lavoro concilia realtà fisiche ed emotive attraverso un'esplorazione multidisciplinare di colore, materiale, processo e forma. Vive e lavora a Seoul, in Corea.
Lee ha conseguito il Bachelor of Arts presso la Hong-ik University di Seoul, Corea, nel 1991. Ha conseguito il Master presso l'Università di Belle Arti di Braunschweig, in Germania, nel 2000.
Dal 2001 al 2002 è stata Artista in Residenza presso il noto SSamzieSpace Studio Residence Program di Seoul, Corea.
Tecnica
Lee si dedica alla precisione nei suoi processi. Pianifica meticolosamente le sue scelte cromatiche e dedica una quantità fissa di tempo alla miscelazione di ogni colore. Per creare i suoi dipinti a colori sfumati, prima strati di nastro in strisce su tutte le superfici. Ogni strato di vernice viene applicato in un arco di tempo fisso e lasciato riposare per un altro periodo di tempo fisso. Questo è un processo di accumulo, stratificazione, accumulo. Le gradazioni esprimono relazioni tra colori e momenti. Alcuni dei suoi quadri sono caratterizzati da un testo. Per queste opere, Lee imprime la parola che ha selezionato per il pezzo prima in superficie, quindi applica una tonalità monocromatica che correla e collabora con la parola scelta. Il colore occupa la parola e riempie tutto lo spazio intorno ad essa. Per Lee, il processo è poetico ed essenziale per il significato del lavoro.
Ispirazione
Nel suo lavoro, Lee sta rispondendo alle sue esperienze emotive all'interno del suo ambiente fisico. Il colore è il suo linguaggio visivo primario. Per lei, il colore non è solo autoreferenziale. Il colore si riferisce anche agli stati emotivi. È un modo di esprimere il sentimento, di proiettare pensieri, di evocare i processi naturali della vita. Lee si ispira allo scorrere del tempo e alla stratificazione delle esperienze. Contempla la memoria e i modi in cui la sua visione del passato cambia con l'accumularsi del tempo. È anche interessata all'automatismo. Attraverso processi inconsci ha stabilito connessioni tra diversi modi di comunicare, ad esempio associando parole specifiche con particolari tonalità nella sua serie di colori come aggettivi. Inoltre, Lee si preoccupa dell'inclinazione del pianeta sul suo asse. La Terra è inclinata a 23,5 gradi, una condizione che ci fa sperimentare le stagioni nel modo in cui facciamo. Lee si chiede se c'è una correlazione qui tra il nostro falso presupposto che siamo in piedi orizzontalmente e altri presupposti che facciamo, come i nostri presupposti su, come dice lei, "l'orizzonte delle emozioni."
L'opera di Lee è presente in numerose collezioni pubbliche e istituzionali, tra cui quella del Seoul Museum of Art, dello Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art e del National Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Bank, Seoul, Corea.
