The gallery was founded by Dieter Brusberg (1935 – 2015) in Hannover in December 1958. In 1966 Brusberg belonged to the seven founding members of the „verein progressiver kunsthändler“ (club of progressive artdealers) who in 1967 initiated the „Kölner Kunstmarkt“ (nowadays Art Cologne), the first fair for art of the present worldwide. From 1982 to 2011 the gallery had its seat at Berlin Kurfürstendamm. With its "Wunderkammer“ at the Friedbergstraße 29, the gallery is still present in Berlin-Charlottenburg. At the same time it ties up to the sources of the gallery in the 1950ies, when Dieter Brusberg – at that time studying interior design at the Werk-Kunstschule Hannover – started to exhibit art together with modern furniture and design, being obliged to the principles of the Bauhaus and its artconnecting ideals. The gallery now shows sparing dialogues between fine and applied arts of the classical modernism, readymades as well as figurative painting and sculpture from 1950 to the present.
