Created in 1986, the Monumental Gallery aims to expose both national and international contemporary art. As a regular activity it features more than 10 annual exhibitions in the field of plastic arts (e.g. sculpture, painting, video, photography, installations, etc.), in addition to presenting numerous cultural events (e.g. music, dance, theatre, literature, etc.). In order to promote Portuguese contemporary art abroad, the Gallery has been organizing several projects for the exchange of artists, amongst which we highlight the holding of exhibitions at the Galerie Marie-Louise Wirth in Zurich (1996), at the Tarasaskor and Pincegaleria Obudai Galleries in Budapest (1998) and at the Gallery Ybakatu in Curitiba (2012). There has also been a very strong focus on art fairs, both nationally and internationally, with the purpose of showing the artworks of various artists who have exhibited in the Monumental Gallery. We highlight the participation in fairs such as ARCO Madrid (Spain), Marca Madeira (Funchal, Portugal), JustMad (Madrid, Spain), Foro Atlântico Santiago de Compostela (Spain), ARTE Lisboa (Portugal), Art Event (Lille, France), amongst others.
