To Dream, to Collect

Galerie Arnoux has, since its beginning 31 years ago, given itself a dual vocation, and from 2017, the challenge of a fresh impetus. Its essential vocation is to allow the discovery, or the rediscovery, of the avant-garde abstract works of the 1950s. It is therefore dedicated to exhibitions or retrospectives of painters or sculptors of that period, for the most part exclusively, thus supporting long-term work. But it is also present in the “secondary market”, acquiring the works of well-known artists, such as, for example, R. Bissière, A. Manessier, G. Singier.. 1950s abstract expressionism, one of the main avant-garde movements of the 20th century, is, at last, taking its deserved place among knowledgeable collectors, delighted to find at the gallery historic works at still affordable prices. Most of the exhibitions illustrate very well this key period, of an exceptionally creative effervescence, when artists had the justified impression of revolutionizing pictorial language. The second vocation of the gallery is to promote contemporary artists whose original or innovative expression clearly distinguishes itself from the 1950s. Lastly, the gallery has taken on a fresh impetus, this renewal is characterized by an enrichment of the offer through exhibitions by new artists, painters, sculptors or photographers but also by a reinforcement of acquisitions of important works from the “secondary market”
