Sudip's art practice focuses on exploring materials and acquiring a wide range of material skills. Leather, the primary material of his work, comes with a high political charge as it retains its deep stigma in the public consciousness.
But the artist's interest in working with this material is because of its ambiguity- between the living and the dead, animate and inanimate, figure and abstract, skin and veneer. Leather has its own mysterious will, sometimes rewarding, sometimes foiling the artistic intention.
Sudip belongs to West Bengal. He completed his BVA and MVA from Government College of Art and Craft Kolkata in 2011 and 2013 respectively.
