Shohei Yokoyama (Okayama, Japan 1985), graduated in Craft and Glassmaking from Osaka University, lives and works in the coastal city of Toyama. His artworks, subject of numerous international awards and recognitions such as the Loewe Caft Prize (2018) can be found in numerous contemporary glass collections around the world.
The most representative series of works by the artist, Amorphus, are made by fluidifying the glass at 1200 ° C in order to make it amorphous and then shaping it by means of gravity, heat, air and centrifugal force in a combination of physical effort and the emotions of the artist during the creative act. In particular, the action of blowing glass with one’s own breath is perceived by Yokoyama as a transfer of energy and power from the artist into the material itself.
