View in a Room

The patining Subterraneo comes from the series Shapes of the Sea is the artist’s contemplation of the vast ocean surface that is deeply rooted in Milena’s home country's culture and tradition. As a Chilean creator, the blue body of water is for her more than just a place of joy and relaxation.

Designed as an exhibition of 15 paintings in acrylic on canvas, it is a journey through the artist’s distinctive perspectives on the grand sea. The color blue is predominant in almost all the artworks. It is not only Milena’s favorite color, but its symbolic meaning has a great impact on the artist’s oeuvre: mother’s heritage, communication, and connection between people.

The series is meant as an invitation to mediate and contemplate. For some the monotonous sound of breaking waves can have a therapeutic effect, it would lead to the mantra. For others, it is the immense and limitless view of the water that has healing and relaxing power.

1992 Santiago de Chile, Chile

Milena was born in 1992 in Santiago de Chile and has lived in Germany for almost 6 years, where she rediscovered her passion for painting and art in general.

Within the creative process, and as an external way of merging the linguistic world with the artistic one, Milena elaborates extensive lists of synonyms that extend the meaning of each work or series she is working on. These lists then become a compilation of different perspectives or interpretations that define more specifically what each of them represents.
