John Copeland's work is based on exaggerated and expressive representations of everyday or domestic scenes. One of Copeland's main characteristics is the balance between abstraction and figuration, which at the same time corresponds to the perceptual relationship between reality and subjectivity.

Conceptually, ideas such as metanarrative, the idea of the absurd, as well as impermanence are present in Copeland's work, achieving a pictorial realism of disordered and simultaneous subjectivity on several levels.
