'Arizona Highways' by James Cobb, Oil on Panel Painting
This oil on panel by artist James Cobb features the mountains prevalent along I-40 West while traveling to Arizona. The mountain is captured in the unique shades of brown, red, and orange typical under the southwest sun. The artist uses deep tones of blue and purple to showcase the variety of shapes and shadows in this mountain range. This mountain cluster is situated within a lush green surrounding.
James Cobb has worked out of his studio in Norman, Oklahoma for the last two decades. His work is executed in oil when painting and charcoal and conté when drawing. He attempts to paint from life and hosts a life drawing session every Friday for artists around the state. Cobb tries to stay true to the subject but is increasingly adding abstractions to his work. He paints all subject matter from still-life, to landscapes, portraiture, and figures.
