Fukumoto’s artistic figure is suspended between an ancient and glorious tradition and overwhelming contemporary innovations. After bisque firing, Fukumoto connects the various fragments to the main body of the vase, creating extremely dynamic shapes. The artist is in fact heir to generations of ceramists who have changed the landscape of clay in the city of Kyoto, but also the creator of profound innovations in the same field.

Already during her years of study at the Kyoto City University of Arts, Fuku concentrated on porcelain under the guidance of the famous master Akiyama Yō, obtaining important recognitions (e.g. Grand Prize at the Asahi Contemporary Craft Exhibition) for his works that have become part of several of the most important collections in the sector in Japan and the United States.
After a bisque firing, Fukumoto joins the various fragments together to the main body of the vase, resulting in extremely dynamic shapes. The soft white of the unglazed porcelain is contrasted and enhanced by glossy glazes in various shades of vivid blue.
The main source of inspiration, as for many Japanese artists, is nature. In particular, the sun, moon and stars, as is evident from the titles of his works.
