About the Artists

1955 Araraquara, Brazil

Edna Aparecida dos Santos Cordeiro (1955, Araraquara SP) had her first contact with the visual arts at the age of 17, in the studio of naif artist Zé Cordeiro, whom she married.

She exhibited for the first time in 1977, in the collective “Mitos e Lendas do Brasil”, in São Bernardo, SP. Her international career began in 1982, at the exhibition, Mito e Magia del Colore, in Naples, Italy. In 1980, dos Santos Cordeiro moved together with her husband to Campinas and opened the Casa de Arte Brasileira, a mix of house, studio, school and art gallery, which operated until 1990, bringing great vitality to the region's art.

In 1990, Edna and Zé Cordeiro travel to Paris, holding an exhibition for two at Maison de l´ Unesco. They then got to know the landscapes of Minho and Alentejo in Portugal, where they settled. He participates in an impressive number of exhibitions in several European countries, including a group exhibition at the Mont-Serrat Art Gallery in New York (1996) and at Thompson's Art Gallery in London (1997). Meets the challenge of painting panels measuring 1,50x2,50, for the exhibition “Cascais Expo 98”, between 20 artists from Portugal (1998). He performs another Individual-à-Dois, with Zé Cordeiro at the Almatea Art Gallery, in Madrid (2000). Many exhibitions were mounted in several countries such as Canada, France, Belgium, Greece, Sweden, Cape Verde, Beirut, and the United Arab Emirates. In 2010, he decides to return to Brazil. Today, the artist has returned to live on her land in Araraquara.
