  • About the work

Digital print.
Edition 1/10.

Part of the proceeds of this project will be donated to Emergency, one of the most important humanitarian organisations.

Alberto's images are lyrical, the photographer turns his gaze to small but essential details, focusing on the soul of the worker. This is how pure and immediate stories are born, integrated into intelligent and authentic geometries where the workers return, among fragments of anger and desire for redemption, to be at the centre of a scratching and brutally truthful narrative. Images that represent fatigue, pride, all expressions of the dignity of man and woman.

#CURATORPILL

Alberto Mesirca (Rome, Italy, 1964). Alberto approaches the subject in a double way. On one hand, he undertakes a geometric and rational perspective, trying to find the abstract in reality and trying to rationalize it. On the other hand, he engages in a sociological perspective, investigating social, economic and historical contexts of even minimal aspects that, only when combined, reveal their entirety. A common feature of his photography is the attempt to reveal hidden aspects of objects and situations, to constantly investigate places and people. He has exhibited in Rome, Dubai, Paris and Los Angeles. His photos have been published in several magazines such as Aint Bad, Silvershotz, L'Oeil de la Photographie, Fotoforum Magazine, Artillery Magazine, "Portrait of Humanity" by Hoxton Mini Press. He has received Honorable Mentions at Lucie Foundations International Photography Awards and PX3. Prix de la Photographie. Alberto was a finalist at Focus Photo LA Winter 2018, Hahnemühle Fine Art Competition, "Portrait of Humanity 2019 by 1845 Media and Magnum Photo.

Each week Rossella Farinotti, our curator, selects 6 interesting artworks on Kooness choosing artists from different generations, mediums, countries and approaches to contemporary art, indicating the reasons why it’s worth understanding the artwork.

About the Artist

1964 Rome, Italy

Alberto Mesirca was born in Rome in 1964.

After graduating in Telecommunication Engineering he lived and worked in different countries (Hong Kong, Argentina, USA, Belgium, United Arab Emirates, Rwanda) following his wife's overseas assignments. He followed the first year of Photography Associate Degree in Santa Monica College where he was influenced by the approach to the sociological aspects of photography.

Alberto approaches the subject in two ways. Fristly, from a geometric and rational perspective, possibly trying to find the abstract in reality and trying to rationalize it. Secondly, from a sociological perspective, investigating social, economic and historical contexts of even minimal aspects that, as in a fractal, represent the whole. Alberto believes that these processes inevitably lead to a more intimate knowledge and appreciation of reality before him.

He currently lives in Kigali, Rwanda.
