Peggy Corthouts

“Each individual, personal place I have experienced through my life and travels, are etched in my mind or recorded in my photographs. It is in painting these memories that I received the greatness satisfaction. Through painting, I am able to add the emotion, spark or serenity of the moment that a photograph could never express.” 

Peggy Corthouts was born in 1959 in Coventry, Connecticut. In 1983, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in printmaking from Arizona State University. Corthouts also studied with Wayne Kimball, master printer at the famed Tamarind Atelier. Among fine art printers, Corthouts is known as a printmaker of remarkable skill and sensitivity.

More recently, she has concentrated on her work, which is receiving considerable attention in the art field. Masterfully executed, her beautiful landscapes are contemporary, yet posses a softness and quality of light reminiscent of the Impressionistic Period.

Corthouts works has been exhibited throughout the United States and her pieces are featured in the collections of the Markland Corporation, National Medical Enterprises, Piedmont Airlines, the John C. Lincoln Hospital, Arizona State University, and the Embassy Suites Hotels.

Her work is intimate and peaceful. Many use a varnishing process to create the illusion of reflection on the water. This quality, lasting “reflection” contrast with the muted softness of the land, portraying tranquillity. Corthouts portrays reality softened with an impressionistic stroke.
