Mario Meier was born in 1973 in what is now Aue-Bad Schlema and grew up in Zschorlau in the Erzgebirge - quasi the "cradle of woodcarving".
He learned the basics of woodcarving as a child and teenager with the local "old masters" and was involved in early years in group exhibitions and performances - such as in the then "Pionierpalast" in Berlin.
During his apprenticeship and studies he also developed an interest in sculpture and painting. He was particularly taken with artists such as Ernst Barlach and Heinz Tetzner, although his own style developed in a different direction. An almost lifelong friendship and joint art projects also connect him with the caricaturist Stephan Buße.
After commissioned work as well as the realization of his own, very personal projects, he was entrusted, among other things, with an illustration in Sebastian R. Böhm's anthology "Die Astronautin" (2020).
In 2021, the artist has moved his studio to the "Karl May City" of Hohenstein-Ernstthal, where he will continue to develop his work and expand it in perspective.
Exhibitions & Art Fairs (Selection):
Numerous exhibitions in Germany and Switzerland, among others.
The artist about his work:
"Curiosity is the inspiration, the desire to combine the new with the traditional, to give an image to a color".
