Luiz Antônio Mondego (1954) was born in Rio de Janeiro. He began his professional life at the extinct magazine “O Cruzeiro” as a comic book designer, where he met lyricist Manoel Tenreiro, son of renowned artist Joaquim Tenreiro with whom he maintained a strong friendship. Manoel invited him to study painting and Mondego accepted his friend's advice, starting to take classes with the watercolorist Waldir Granado, still in the seventies.

In 1980, he was invited to work at Jornal do Brasil as an illustrator. In 1984, he accepted an invitation to head the arts department of Jornal o Dia, at that time Luiz Mondego produced illustrations for several magazines, made cartoons, caricatures and book covers, records, in addition to developing the production of his paintings.

In 1990, he was invited by the gallery owner Paulo Cesar to be part of the paintings of the Bourguese gallery. It was there that Mondego definitively left the press and devoted himself entirely to painting. In 1995, he had his first solo show at Galeria Bourguese in Shopping da Gávea.

Since the beginning of 2022, he has been on the list of artists represented by the Um Lugar ao Sol Art Gallery.
