Joan Vizcarra was born in Montblanch, Tarragona, in 1967. As a teenager he already participated in cartoon and comic strip design competitions. He went on to graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona and got started in the field working for a couple of years as an advertising illustrator, in advertising spots and television series.

In 1991 he began to collaborate with the popular Spanish satirical magazine El Jueves, which he continues to do. The following year he also began a weekly collaboration with the Avui newspaper, later on with El Periódico and eventually with the El Mundo newspaper supplement.

In 1997 he was appointed Honorary Professor (of Humor) by the University of Alcalá de Henares.

He has produced art for, among others, the Buenafuente TV show, the Enderrock music magazine, TI Windows, Penthouse magazine, the Ara newspaper, Interviú magazine and the sports news publication L'Esportiu.

He uses a wide variety of techniques and in 2010 he started creating graphic humor in "large formats" for collectors and various events. He is also dedicated to drawing originals for private collectors far and wide.

Personalities as diverse as Spain’s former king Juan Carlos, Camilo José Cela, Ruíz-Mateos, Joaquín Sabina or Santiago Segura, and a plethora of well-known international film and TV stars own some of those “Vizcarra originals”, which is why he’s dubbed “the celebrities´cartoonist”... Vizcarra's caricature art is very present, often in exhibitions, in the Media and in merchandising for a variety of product lines.

Joan Vizcarra is considered one of the best, more recognizable and more copied cartoonists in the world. With more than 10,000 original artworks created throughout the course of his career, Vizcarra’s ability, skill and talent to draw with such comedic wit place him among the most influential caricature artists today.

He’s received awards on several occasions and in 2012 a documentary film, Drawing Vizcarra, was made about him.
