Irmi Obermeyer takes up the tried and tested technique of oil painting in its basics and interprets it in a completely new way. The paint is applied to a smooth surface such as Aludibond panels, Plexiglas, paper, but also canvases and wood, and spread with a wide brush on the surface. This creates a snapshot of a fleeting movement, captured in oil. The color white plays a major role as a deliberately used “white room”. The artist is inspired by the materiality in the paintings of the old masters. That could be the folds at Velazquez or the fabric hoods at Vermeer.
