Žiga Kariž (1973, Ljubljana, Slovenia) is a visual artist, working in the cross-section of visual and conceptual art practices, mostly painting, new media and photography. In his work, Kariž stems from the field of conceptual painting and thematically focuses on the concept of the image and the ideology ingrained in its structure. Kariž’s projects continuously question the relation between the work of art and society, politics, ideology and economy. In 2003 he represented Slovenia at the Venice Art Biennale. He also exhibited under the renowned art group with a collective identity Janez Janša. He has been teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana since 2010.
