From 1970 till today with its annual events in the cities like Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong, Art Basel exhibits the world's premier art shows of Modern and Contemporary art. Just a few more days and sunny Miami Beach will present the latest artistic trends led by 269 galleries from 33 countries. From 5 – 8 December it will be possible to see the most important artworks from leading galleries (including 20 new participants).

Among the novelties of the fair, the section Meridians (curated by Magalí Arriola, Director of Museo Tamayo) for sure stands out. Similar to Unlimited, this section will feature monumental works, installations and performances. Even if it has a different title, Meridians has been conceived as a twin sister of the Unlimited section, the famous and successful platform designed by the Swiss edition of Art Basel for large projects. Born with the idea to offer to galleries the opportunity to present installations, sculptures, video projections, mural paintings, photographic series and performance art, these sections are transcending the limits of stand's traditional exhibition, by aiming more at institutional acquisitions.

For this 2019 edition, the fair has already announced a massive presence of Asian galleries, including 10 Chancery Lane Gallery and Hanart TZ Gallery (Hong Kong), Magician Space (Beijing), ROH Projects (Jakarta). The main section of the fair called Galleries will include 203 exhibitors, with a diversified selection of media as painting, sculpture, design, installation, photography and video. By taking inspiration of what happened at the last Swiss edition, also in Miami Beach, the economic model will be what they call "escalator" for which the larger galleries pay a higher price than the smaller galleries or more young people, to guarantee them access to the event. Among the new exhibitors at the main section there are Peter Blum Gallery, Ceysson & Bénétière, Clearing, Hanart TZ Gallery, High Art, hunt kastner, Gaga, Catriona Jeffries, Karma, Maisterravalbuena, Galeria Jaqueline Martins, Revolver Galería, Tyler Rollins Fine Art, Société. Between these, five galleries -Luciana Brito Galeria, Taka Ishii Gallery, Galeria Leme, Roberts Project and Galleria Christian Stein - are coming back to the Galleries section after what we might define a "time-break".
In an effort of showing the most experimental artworks, there will be 14 selected galleries that will animate the emerging section called Position that for each stand will see just one artist as the exhibit's protagonist. Scheduled exhibitions include Manal AlDowayan's Watch Before You Fall for the Sabrina Amrani Gallery, Colter Jacobsen's Begin Being at Callicoon Fine Arts, while Cooper Cole will present sculptures by Canadian artist Tau Lewis and Document will propose photographs by Paul Mpagi Sepuya.

Nova section will see the participation of 25 galleries providing a platform for galleries to present new work by up three artists. The section Survey is instead dedicated to works created before 2000, and the highlights of this section will include a series of new painting by Miami-based Haitian artist Tomm El-Saieh at Central Fine, work by Mira Dancy and Jesse Darling at Chapter NY, an immersive installation by Raúl de Nieves and Cajsa von Zeipel at Company Gallery, a new series of paintings by Didier William at James Fuentes, a solo presentation by Paris-based multidisciplinary artist Neïl Beloufa at Ghebaly Gallery, Mariane Ibrahim Gallery's showcase of new and recent works by Amoako Boafo, and the debut of a new body of work by conceptual photographer Todd Gray at David Lewis. Finally, to satisfy the curiosity of serial works 'lovers there will an entire section dedicated to art prints named Edition ready to feature 11 global leaders in the field of prints and editioned works.
