The program of collateral activities for "Les Parallèles du Sud" will highlight the link between cultural production and the specificity of the place, by focusing on the creation of new relationships within Marseille and the national territory. This result will be obtained with the contribution of leading figures and institutions in the international scene.

The manifestation will include 350 participants, with names such as Anri Sala, Liam Gillick, Luc Tuymans, Koo Jeong A, Ann Veronica Janssens, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Jonas Mekas, Kader Attia, Luca Vitone. Another important aspect will be the enormous impact that Manifesta 13 will have on the entire region (Nice, Monaco, Arles, Embrun just to name a few) with a collateral program animated by exhibitions, performances, installations, talks and meetings for a total of 96 projects and a budget around 500 thousand euros, made available by the Région Sud.

The 350 participants with a wide array of professionalism and skills, including curators, artists, researchers and directors from Great Britain, Germany, the Baltic Republics, Holland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Kosovo, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Greece, Congo, Cameroon, United States, Belgium and Norway. Among these, 200 are artists and 80 of them live and work in various parts of the South, such as Wilfrid Almendra, Cabanon Vertical, Gethan & Miles, Cari Gonzalez Casanova, Ildi Eldi collective, Geoffroy Mathieu, Olivier Millagou, Abraham Poincheval, Dania Reymond-Boughenou, Jean-Baptiste Sauvage, Sud Side, Rara Woulib.

The 50% of the artists are women, which includes Znouk Kruithof, Ilana Salama Ortar, Watanabe Chikako, Steffani Jemison, Regina Hübner, Mounira Al Solh, Ursula Biemann and Himali Singh Soin.

The 96 projects were selected following a call, for which 380 proposals were received from all over the world. The 75% of the winning projects were presented by institutions, associations, galleries, artists and curators from the Southern Region normally known with the name Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur Region of which the commonly indicated capital is Marseille. The team is composed of Hedwig Fijen (founder and director of Manifesta and the winner of the European Cultural Manager of 2019); Colette Barbier (director of Fondation d'entreprise Ricard); Alya Sebti (a member of the Manifesta 13 theme);  Michèle Sylvander (artist).

The Les Parallèles du Sud program will be developed in collaboration with important regional festivals, such as the Rencontres de la photographie in Arles, among the most popular photography events in the world, and the FID - Marseille International Film Festival.
