If Covid allows, the new François Pinault museum will open on January 23, 2021. Designed by Tadao Ando, it was supposed to open in June 2020, but eventually it will be accessible only after almost a year from its restoration. Reaching this milestone has been a real achievement, but "there are no other reasons to wait now", said Pinault, the owner of Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana.

Located in the heart of Paris, the museum will be directed by Marthin Bethenod, the former director of the Venetian outpost of the Pinault collection. It will consist in a space of about 10,000 square metres, equipped with rooms for special projects, a black box and an auditorium hosting 300 seats. Funded by private endowments only, the 120 million euros restoration project was curated by Tadao Ando Architect and Associates - TAAA and Pierre-Antoine Gatier and assisted by NeM - Lucie Niney and Thibault Marca.

The museum will occupy the Bourse de Commerce headquarter. Being an historical monument, the restoration was done with full respect for the quality and the history of the site: The Bourse de Commerce is in fact a monument created on the remains of a former 18th century grain market, which later became a mecca for commerce, in the 19th century.  In 2021, it will be returned to the public with the magnificent intervention of Tadao Ando who respected the circular structure of the space. It will consist in a concrete cylinder with glass finishes, allowing visitors to walk through the space looking at the pre-existing frescoes.

The museum will contain works from a collection of over 10,000 artworks by approximately 400 artists, spanning all languages and media. The opening will be preceded by a series of open days that will accompany the public until the fateful date of January.
