Just a few years (two for sure) and the future Museum at PLATEFORME 10 will be finished. By the Autumn 2021, the City of Lausanne and the Canton of Vaud will see three of their symbolic cultural institutions brought together on a single site. By the way... the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Design and Contemporary Applied Arts (mudac) and the Musée de l’Elysée will be housed just a few yards from the station in the former CFF locomotive hangars. The goal will be to provide Lausanne with a new, huge end efficient museum centre, that at the same time update and raise museum projects that have grown too well to remain in their previous homes. Thus it will be, in an autonomous situation, for the MCB-A - Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts, in a building designed by Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga; and so it will be, in a building designed by Aires Mateus and intelligently shared, for the Musée de l'Elysée and the MUDAC, which stands for Musée de Design et d'Arts appliqués Contemporains.

To win the open call for the future Musée de l'Elysée has been the Aires Mateus studio with the project "One Museum, Two Museums". In a single volume, it brings together synthetically the duality and complementarity of the two museums distributed on either side of the luminous opening marking the common entrance. This horizontal space crosses the volume emerging at the bottom of the esplanade and spectacularly acts as a call for the visitor or traveller. The iconic quality of the building is not just a visual signal.
Thanks to the Platform 10 - supported by the Canton of Vaud, the City of Lausanne and the CFF and considered "unprecedented for Switzerland" - Lausanne will have a single centre that will encompass the main local cultural institutions. The absolute priority of the architectural project is to respect all the museum functionalities. A clear example is given by the welcome area that will be a real open forum that brings all together with the common areas: ticketing, bookstore, shop and cafeteria. Every space is specially designed to meet the museum logistic requirements and visitor needs.
