Eric Munsch approaches painting in 1992 and tries out different techniques enthused by both impressionism as well as by lyrical abstraction. In 1998, he trained for what became his artistic signature. He painted a seascape resonant to Nicolas de Staël’s art, by taking advantage of touches of bright colours, rectangular shapes in a weave of horizontal and vertical lines. These lines were meant to structure the space like the ropes of a sail.

“Painting is the writing of the soul and is therefore one of my wildest dreams.” As Eric Munsch quotes, painting and art are his passion as well as his purpose. Expressly, the artist centres his work on marine paint and presents a new way of approaching seascapes, in a semi-abstract and colourful style. He describes himself artist of movement and colour, as he creates sober, dynamic and modern seascapes.

Both an extraordinary colourist and a visionary, Munsch possesses a rare talent, i.e. the great purity and spontaneity of his touch. People around him consider him “touched by grace”.

His timeless but resolutely contemporary writing is both poetry and a great mystery. Filled with a precious emotion, the pictorial universe of Munsch charms and fascinates. His technique mastered with a knife allows him to move from lyrical flights in bright and dashing colours, to exposed, soft and pure compositions. His gesture is precise and his technique is distinguishable between many. His artworks are generous and his sensitivity permeates through each of the canvases as he is keen to share what he sees, feels and imagines.

Munsch manages to tell a story without imposing an image, especially in his series “from Sky to Earth”, where he lets the watcher see a world between horizontality and verticality. The artist gives a great significance to the movements and gestures he performs, to commit to his choice of colours and leave a great freedom of interpretation.

Eric Munsch lives and works in Alsace, and exhibited in many galleries in France and abroad Canada, United States, Belgium, Hong Kong, Turkey, Austria throughout his career. His artworks are adequate for different environment such as homes and work spaces. Make sure you check them out on Kooness!
