The next week the city of Madrid will shine with the colours of contemporary art!
Indeed, from the 27 February to 3 March 2019 the capital city of Spain will host several numbers of fairs and exhibitions. Thanks to the renewed presence of ARCOMadrid, also this year will be possible to enjoy by the presence of smaller but more specialized art fairs as the case of the Fourth Edition of Drawing Room Madrid.
A real buttonhole for who loves’ all the declinations that drawing is assuming in the current artistic landscape, Drawing Room Madrid is the typical example of ever-expanding art fair. Together with the Portuguese twin Drawing Room Lisboa (9/13 Oct. 2019) - the Spanish fair is ready to dazzle with more participant galleries, focus on authors and a new location, the Palacio Santa Bárbara that this year will host 20 international galleries. Bearing in mind that over the last four editions the fair helped to highlight the work of more 70 galleries and 200 artists inclined to explore all facets of the drawing discipline.
As stated by the art historian and Fair's director Monica Álvarez Careaga:
" ... experts and affectionate who plan to visit the fourth edition of Drawing Room at Santa Barbara Palace in Madrid, from February 27th to March 3rd, could be found they're self surrounded by the works of forty artists, including women and emergent artist. Some of these works don’t look like drawings, because the fair aims to show artistic practices in which drawing is present both in the artist's thought and on paper. In this regard some examples of the conceptual and procedural nature of contemporary design lines are broken works by Mark Hosking (Art Nueve) mirror, or reformulation of the Sho - Japanese traditional calligraphy - Mizuho Koyama (Kitai), the drawing as a disappearing trace as in the case of Javier Aqilué (LA CARBONERÍA), or the performative drawing of John Franzen (Galleria Yoko Uhoda).
The proposals diversity is confirmed by an Interesting gap that starts from the recovery of classic preparatory drawing, as Sergio Sanz (Siboney) do, to the automatical drawing made by artificial machine as we can see in the Rubén Tortosa project (Set). In this last example one gainsay the idea that drawing is a discipline that an artist can’t delegate, an important characteristic that arise in the minimalist works of Teo González (La Casa Amarilla) or Moreira Marco (Modulo Arte), as well as in the neo-romantic drawing by Emmanuel Lafont (Yusto / Giner) that want to explore all the graphite possibilities.
Finally... normally compeer with intimacy, authenticity, subjectivity and memory, the mythic consideration of drawing as a mediator between the world and our intimate self need a brought closer approach. A method to literally appropriate the artwork that is a distinctive character of Drawing Room. I really hope that everybody who will be there can enjoy of this important aspects . "
Coming back to numbers and names, for four days the visitors will be able to discover the proposals of the 20 participating galleries from Belgium, Argentina, Japan, Portugal and Spain. Among the new additions are Yoko Uhoda Gallery, from Liège (Belgium), Granada, from Buenos Aires (Argentina), and the Spanish Artizar, from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Carbonería, from Huesca, La Casa Amarilla, from Zaragoza, and Ogami Press, from Madrid. Moreover, three Portuguese galleries, which participated in the Lisbon edition of Drawing Room, are also coming to Madrid: Fonseca Macedo Arte Contemporânea, by Ponta Delgada, Monumental and Módulo, both from Lisbon.
The galleries that will repeat their participation in Drawing Room will be ATM Galería + Addaya Art from Gijón (Asturias) and Alaró (Mallorca), Art Nueve, from Murcia, Lucía Mendoza and Silvestre from Madrid; Siboney, from Santander; Yusto/Giner, from Marbella; Pepita Lumier and Set Espai d'Art and the Japanese Kitai.
In the end, a total of 40 artists (half of whom are women) will transport the visitor on the new drawing borders, here the names: Alberto Corazón, Almudena Lobera, Altea Grau, Ana Romãozinho, Bárbara Assis Pacheco, Beatriz Ros, Begoña Morea Roy, Clara Sánchez Sala, Cristina Ramírez, Daniel Verbis, Edgar Plans, Fernando Martín Godoy, Hans Lemmen, Irene González, Javier Aquilué, João Gomes Gago, John Franzen, José Loureiro, Kirsten Hutsch, Lourenço de Castro, Luna Bengoechea, Marco Alom, Marco Moreira, Mark Hosking, Marta Barrenechea, Mizuho Koyama, Nuria Riaza, Pablo Capitán del Río, Paula Sanz Caballero, Pedro Calhau, Pedro Luis Cembranos, Pierre Ardouvin, Rubén Tortosa, Sara Quintero, Sergio Porlán, Sergio Sanz, Simon Zabell, Teo González and Victoria Maldonado.
