To Dream, to Collect

This weekend the international art fair scene will move its way up north. From the 22nd until the 25th of April,  the most important galleries of the Nordics are gathered at the Market Art fair in Stockholm.

The fair that focuses on contemporary art has its roots in the alliance funded by Stockholm-based galleries in 2005. This year will mark the 11th edition and present about 30 participating galleries. Another change for this edition is the location of the fair, co-directors Elin Hagström and Jun-Hi Wennergren Nordling have moved the fair out from its established home at Liljevalchs to the rooftop of a 1970’s shopping mall Gallerian in the middle of Stockholm’s city center.

This year the fair has also asked the participant galleries to exclusively show solo presentation, and although the focus is on Nordic galleries, many of the artist exhibited are internationally renowned. The collectors remain mainly Nordic as well but there is a growing international interest in smaller fairs like these, perhaps due to the opportunity to discover new things.

At the same time there is also the smaller SuperMarket art fair running, an independent international artist run fair for artist's run galleries and other artist's initiatives.
