Tenesh Webber è un fotografo astratto canadese il cui lavoro esplora e sfida le convenzioni della fotografia tradizionale in bianco e nero.
Vive a Jersey City, New Jersey e lavora a Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Istruzione
Webber ha studiato alla Emily Carr University of Art + Design di Vancouver e alla OCAD University di Toronto, dove ha conseguito la laurea AOCA.
Tecnica
Tenesh Webber, negli ultimi 25 anni, ha lavorato in stampe su larga scala/murales; manipolato le fotografie nella camera oscura, o manipolato i negativi nella fotocamera.
La sua fotografia attuale, che si concentra sui fotogrammi di media scala, continua le sue esplorazioni del mezzo. Le stampe sono in scala media, 27,9 x 27,9 cm, o 50,8 x 50,8 cm
Il processo di Webber inizia con gli schizzi, in cui sviluppa le idee dell'immagine. Quindi crea oggetti bidimensionali con filo da cucito o pennarello su plexiglass. Costruisce le immagini attraverso la stratificazione, allungando e tagliando il filo, e attraverso linee ripetitive disegnando sul plexiglass.
Queste "lastre" vengono utilizzate per creare immagini fotografiche senza telecamere.
Il posizionamento a mano e i fili sciolti offrono un elemento di possibilità nel lavoro e ogni stampa all'interno di una serie è unica.
Le risultanti immagini astratte creano composizioni ritmiche, intuitive e offrono tensione tra organico e rettilineo.
Suggeriscono visioni macro e micro della natura, o dell'uomo.
Ispirazione
Webber studiò con gli artisti canadesi Ian Wallace ed Eldon Garnet che furono i primi innovatori nella fotografia sperimentale, negli anni'70, introducendo immagini su larga scala e sequenziali nella loro pratica fotografica. Si è ispirata a questi artisti, per sviluppare il proprio approccio al lavoro con il mezzo, portando a esplorazioni in scala e processi fotografici alternativi, tra cui il suo attuale lavoro con i fotogrammi.
La sua fotografia è anche influenzata e ispirata dal lavoro di una lunga storia di fotografi, pittori e scultori che lavorano in astrazione.
Questi includono, Richard Serra' s grassetto olio bastone disegni, Barry Le Va' s disposizioni di forma geometrica, e Agnes Martin' s delicato processo minimo.
Il suo lavoro rientra in una tradizione di "rayographs", o fotogrammi, stabiliti da artisti come Man Ray, e Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, nel 1920, artisti il cui lavoro in fotografia è stata informata dalla loro pratica di pittura e scultura.
Basandosi sul lavoro di questi artisti, Webber ha sviluppato un approccio unico alla creazione dei suoi fotogrammi, integrando elementi di scultura e disegno, incorporando anche operazioni casuali.
