VIASATERNA was created in 2015 on the initiative of Irene Crocco, founder in 2011 of the project Da vicino, in which she exhibited the artworks of various Italian artists in her Milanese apartment. The gallery name is inspired by and pays tribute to Via Saterna, an imaginary street described by Dino Buzzati in his “Poema a Fumetti”, (1969, Arnoldo Mondadori). A world in which dream and reality intertwine in a tapestry of people, destinies, lives and imagination. From this magical and mysterious atmosphere, Irene Crocco drew the inspiration to create a gallery that, through art, becomes a living crossroads for people and ideas. Starting from a specific interest towards photography, also thanks to the contribution of Fantom curatorial platform, today Viasaterna explores every other forms of contemporary art with the collaboration of Anna Vittoria Magagna, with a special attention for young artists along with the dedication to more established ones.
The founder of gallery Viasaterna, Irene Crocco was born in Milan in 1975. From 2011 to 2014 she organized exhibitions in her home in Milan, and named the project “Da vicino”, Close up, with the objective of bringing the public closer to artworks and artists. Prior to this, she worked with galleries, including Antonio Colombo and Nepente; with institutions such as Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa and the Venice Biennale Historical Contemporary Arts Archives; and with specialized magazines. She is artistic director of Fondazione La Raia, founded in 2013 with the objective of developing critical debate on the theme of landscape by means of events with the participation of artists, philosophers, architects, and landscape designers.
