About the fair

The fifth edition of paper positions berlin presents 49 international exhibitors from 19 – 22 August 2021 with outstanding positions from contemporary and modern art on the subject of drawing and the medium paper.

paper positions berlin wants this genre to be focused on at the Deutsche Telekom Hauptstadtrepraesentanz, centrally located at Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin-Mitte. The galleries and their artists are given a presentation opportunity, which is dedicated to the subject of drawing and the medium of paper with all its specific features, its fragility and its enormous versatility. In the spirit of its fair concept, which refrains from classic booths and is completely tailor-made for the most sensitive exhibits, paper positions berlin deliberately focuses on a salon-like situation. The limited number of exhibitors also underlines the character of a large theme-based exhibition. The spatial design offers an open overview as well as the possibility to directly approach individual artistic works and to perceive them in a mutual dialogue.

We are very pleased to present a new award at paper positions berlin 2021: the PAPER ART AWARD.
This prize is founded and sponsored by Canon, d’mage, and Hahnemuehle. It will be awarded annually at paper positions in Berlin. The Paper Art Award honors artists who work with paper as a material in an outstanding, stimulating and special way. The award, worth a total of 36,000 Euro, will be used for the purchase of works by the winning artists for the newly founded paper art museum “Haus des Papiers” in Berlin.

Since 2019 paper positions berlin, together with RKA Rechtsanwälte Hamburg/Berlin, presents the paper positions award. The award, which is given exclusively to female artists, honors an outstanding contemporary position on drawing and the medium of paper and includes a special presentation the following year. The first winner was Hell Gette (2019), for 2020 Iris Schomaker was awarded.
