Home Shows Riyas - Contemporary Art Practices

The conservation of memory is often dependent on documentation. ‘Riyas’ is an expansive, ambitious project that aims to create a tapestry across time and space, an initiative that aims to bring together the art practice of some of the most powerful voices of the country spanning generations and regions.

The idea is to showcase artists who work in diverse mediums thereby creating a narrative that is inclusive and open. The exhibition includes the works of past masters like K G Subramanyan to present day veterans who have unique perspectives and styles like Manu Parekh, Amit Ambalal, Mona Rai, Madhvi Parekh, Daroz, Ranbir Kaleka, Naveen Kishore, Jagannath Panda, Jayasri Burman, Radhakrishnan, Gopikrishna, Dipalee Daroz, Harshavardhana, Riyas Komu, Manisha Gera Baswani, Megha Joshi, Debasish Mukherjee, Waswo X Waswo, Remen Chopra W. Van Der Vaart, Purvai Rai, Narayan Sinha, Reyaz Bahruddin, Bapi Das and Deepa Parekh.

We have invited artists who are known to work with diverse mediums and the exciting list includes practitioners who are sculptors, potters, photographers, and video and textile artists besides painters.

Encouraging diversity ‘Riyas’ hopes to push the envelope and create an experience that is immersive, eclectic and engaging. Here are narratives and sceneries that stunningly fuse myth, memory, fact, fiction, history, tradition, fantasy and documentation.

Underlined with poetic resonances, ‘Riyas’ is about fragments of histories yet to be written, about geographies that defy man-made borders, traversing to lands unseen.

‘Riyas’ curated by Ina Puri and presented by Iram Art Gallery opens on August 31st at Bikaner House, New Delhi.
