To Dream, to Collect

Artist: Elisa Bertaglia
Title“Concerto. Singing over the bones”
Curated by: R. Farinotti
Date: March 16th, 2019/May 31st, 2019
Opening: March 16th, 2019 @6PM

After a prolific two year of study and experimentation in the United States and in Italy, the artist presents the developments of her research.

The set of heterogeneous works ranges from large-format paintings to small paintings, ending with a group of sculptures and installations. Bertaglia puts her work in dialogue with other contemporary artists such as Hao Liang, Liz Deschenes, Luc Tuymans and Tamara Ferioli, just to name a few. Continuing the analysis of the particular themes of her own poetics, such as the threshold, the nature, the metamorphosis and the duality, the artist takes a disenchanted and bitter gaze, penetrating the concepts of cruelty, transformation, violence and punishment. Renewing her narrative vocabulary and dynamically developing the composition and the space in the representation, the artist presents coherent and cohesive works, which mark a moment of intense reflections and changes in her own research.

“Through an oneiric and symbolic language, I obsessively investigate the concept of threshold as metamorphosis, an ‘other’ space in which children and fairs, bones and plants are the symbols of the short circuit in the complex synthesis of rituals and rules that celebrate the transition between consciousness and knowledge.”
