  • About the book

The monograph presents a relevant selection of works among historical sculptures complex monumental installations and new productions, tracing the the career of the artist who was awarded the 2018 Hepworth Prize for Sculpture. Along with views of the exhibition at Pirelli HangarBicocca and a series of images selected by Cerith Wyn Evans related to the theme of of light, the volume includes three previously unpublished essays: a text by art historian Briony Fer, which focuses on the more conceptual and material aspects of the series of sculptures Neon Forms (after Noh); an extensive contribution by philosopher and theorist Éric Alliez who presents a series of complex references to the artist's work; and finally "False Starts" by Alexander García Düttmann which restores the peculiarity of the artist's work through a loop of different different incipits. The catalogue also includes an introductory text by the curators, a series of apparatuses with detailed cards for each work in the exhibition in the exhibition and an illustrated chronology of all the artist's personal exhibitions.

After his beginnings as a filmmaker, since the nineties Cerith Wyn Evans (Llanelli, Wales, 1958) has dedicated himself to the realization of sculptures, site-specific and specific and performative interventions that are characterized by the use of ephemeral elements and ephemeral materials such as light and sound and by the centrality of the temporal dimension in the fruition of the work. In their elegance and formal balance, the works of Cerith Wyn Evans draw on a complexity of references and citations references and quotations - from literature, to music, philosophy, photography poetry, history of art, astronomy and science - which are declined in new forms through new forms through an articulated process of editing.

Roberta Tenconi is curator at Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan, where she has recently curated several solo exhibitions of important contemporary artists.

Vicente Todolí, artistic director of Pirelli HangarBicocca since 2012, has a long career as artistic director in international institutions - including IVAM, Valencia, Museu de 2020, Serralves bilingual edition in Oporto and Tate Modern in London - and as curator of exhibitions.
