About the Artist

1977 Lisbon, Portugal

Susana Gaudêncio’s (Lisbon, Portugal, 1977) work is usually involved in a research based practice and a combined media approach, such as drawings, video-animations, printmaking, books or publications presented in an installation context. Her projects elaborate on the rela-tionship between the historical legacy of concepts such as: the utopian impulse, utopia, dystopia, heterotopia, strangeness, nomadism, and artistic production as a platform to find new possibilities for questioning utopia, as a critical device eminently political.
Susana Gaudêncio has shown his works in individual and group exhibitions at renowned institutions, such as Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea/Museu do Chiado . Lisboa Lisbon, Portugal, Museu da Electricidade, Lisboa Lisbon, Portugal, Centro de Arte Moderna Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Lisboa Lisbon Portugal, Carlos Carvalho Arte Contemporânea . Lisboa Lisbon, Portugal, The Mews Project Space . Londres London, UK, 2011, ISE Fundação Cultural . Nova Iorque New York, USA EUA, Bowery Poetry Club . Nova Iorque New York U.S.A, Chashama Gallery Visual Arts Program . Nova Iorque, EUA USA. Her works are held in numerous public and private collections in-cluding those of the Fundação Coca-Cola, Espanha, Fundação PLMJ, Portugal and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Portugal.
